UGEFA’s latest call for applications attracted 145 submissions from green enterprises across Uganda, underscoring sustained momentum for climate‑positive, market‑ready solutions. While the review is ongoing and selections have not yet been made, initial patterns point to a balanced mix of sectors, business maturities and revenue profiles with representation from all regions.
Clean energy and sustainable agriculture lead the field with 47 and 45 applications respectively, signalling continued demand for reliable power solutions and climate‑smart production. Green manufacturing contributes a further 24 applications and urban waste management adds 18, indicating growing interest in circular economy models and resource efficiency. Smaller but notable contributions include sustainable tourism (6) and sustainable mobility and transport (2), with three applications classified as other activities.
The applicant pool spans a healthy range of enterprise ages. A plurality of firms are between two and five years old (58), closely followed by those five to ten years old (56), with a solid base of more established enterprises operating for more than a decade (25). This mix suggests a pipeline that combines early growth potential with operational experience, well suited to UGEFA’s support offer.
Applications also cover all reported turnover bands. Twenty‑two applicants report annual turnover below UGX 36 million, twenty‑three fall between UGX 36–100 million, fifty‑four between UGX 100–360 million and forty‑six above UGX 360 million. The distribution indicates both emerging ventures seeking to formalise and scale, and more advanced enterprises positioned to amplify impact with catalytic finance and technical assistance.
Geographically, submissions came from every region in the country. The Central region accounts for 53 applications, Western for 48, Eastern for 30 and Northern for 14. This reach reflects widespread interest in green enterprise models and the relevance of UGEFA’s offer beyond major urban centres.
All applications are now under review against UGEFA’s criteria for green impact, commercial viability and potential to scale. Shortlisted enterprises will be contacted directly with next steps.
