Driving Green Growth in Uganda: UGEFA Joins the Uganda-EU Business Forum 2024

In a dynamic fusion of commerce and collaboration, the 3rd Uganda EU Business Forum illuminated the path towards enhanced trade and investments between the European Union and Uganda. This year's event, themed "Boosting Trade and Investments between the EU and Uganda," unfolded at the prestigious Speak Resort Munyonyo from March 5th to 7th, 2024.

In a dynamic fusion of commerce and collaboration, the 3rd Uganda EU Business Forum illuminated the path towards enhanced trade and investments between the European Union and Uganda. Hosted by the Delegation of the European Union to Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation, this year’s event, themed “Boosting Trade and Investments between the EU and Uganda,” unfolded at the prestigious Speak Resort Munyonyo from March 5th to 7th, 2024.

A variety of business players came together, including dignitaries, investors, financiers, and green entrepreneurs, alongside regulatory bodies, NGOs and governmental representatives. It was praised as a prime example of successful business fora, sparking innovation and fostering strategic partnerships.

Commencing with resounding welcome remarks from H.E. J. Sadek, Ambassador of the European Union to Uganda, H. Nzeyi, Chair of the Private Sector Foundation Uganda and M. Rwakakamba, Chair of the Uganda Investment Authority, the forum set an engaging tone. High-level officials including M. Ferran, EU Deputy Director General for International Partnerships, and Ugandan ministers Hon. F. Mwebessa and Hon. M. Kassaija, added weight to the dialogue.

The three-day event was officially opened by H.E. Y Kaguta Museveni, as he emphasized the pivotal role of collaboration in amplifying Uganda’s manufacturing sector, stressing the significance of value addition and job creation in a sustainable and green economy.

UGEFA was actively engaged and represented at the event, showcasing its support for green enterprise development in Uganda. Besides, ten UGEFA-supported enterprises were spotlighted during the event, pitching their innovative business models to potential investors. Additionally, five enterprises showcased their sustainable innovations, amplifying the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.

The forum culminated in the launch of five transformative initiatives, injecting 200 million EUR into Uganda’s economic landscape. H. E. Y Kaguta Museveni, accompanied by Team Europe and private sector partners, inaugurated projects ranging from female entrepreneurship to sustainable agriculture, echoing a commitment to inclusive growth and environmental stewardship. Furthermore, the announcement of the Access to Finance Portal welcomes a centralised hub for entrepreneurial financing, streamlining access to capital and fostering economic resilience. 

The closure of the 3rd Uganda EU business forum was officiated by the Rt Hon Prime Minister Robinah Nabanja, underscoring the forum’s significance in propelling sustainable business practices forward. Organised by Sustainable Business for Uganda in collaboration with partners, the Uganda EU Business Forum emerges as an annual milestone, illuminating pathways for partnerships and sustainable innovation across continents and industries.
