WE REDUCE RISKS OF
FINANCING CHANGE
Our Approach
We reduce the risk of financing change by working together with the financial sector to provide green SME finance.
By providing insights into the valuable business opportunity of financing environmentally sustainable businesses and offering comprehensive trainings plus technical assistance for commercial banks, the Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator builds a community of practice among financial institutions and other stakeholders of entrepreneurial ecosystems.
Green Finance Academy – enabling financial institutions to navigate green, climate and SME finance to seize new business opportunities
Would you like to gain experience in new and growing markets? Are you interested in leading your institution in championing investments in green growth and green job creation?
The adelphi Green Finance Academy addresses topics of climate finance, green and circular SME finance and more, together with leading financial institutions working towards green growth.
As part of the academy, together we look at how to identify green and circular SMEs in your portfolio, understand their financing needs and obstacles, and design instruments that unlock finance for this target group and draw on de-risking mechanisms to further develop the portfolio. We further delve into discussions on green/climate eligibility criteria and taxonomy, opportunities to access global climate finance, and more.
By the end of the academy, financial institutions have developed and refined green SME finance instruments, justifications and objectives to share with management, and a better sense of the opportunity of green and climate finance for their institutions.
Interactive and participatory sessions draw on existing experience and insights to develop new solutions
The Green Finance Academy leverages participatory and interactive approaches to designing green finance instruments, leveraging the expertise of participants and research development by adelphi to co-create innovative approaches to green SME financing. Participants make use of tried and tested toolkits to follow a journey of exploring their portfolio, developing new instruments, and operationalising their ideas to become leaders in their field.
The Green Finance practitioner community
To date, 10 Green Finance Academy trainings have been implemented in multiple countries, including Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia and Kenya, with more than 30 financial institutions participating. The final pitch day brings in partners from across sectors – from the development finance community, business advisors and support organisations, enterprises and investors – to provide feedback on the instruments developed and to forge new partnerships.
