UGEFA and Diamond Trust Bank Uganda Announce Strategic Partnership to Expand Access to Green Finance for SMEs

Kampala, Ugnda | The Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA) has entered a strategic partnership with Diamond Trust Bank (DTB Uganda) to expand access to tailored green finance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Uganda, advancing an inclusive and climate-resilient economy. UGEFA is funded by the European Union and implemented by adelphi global. Through this collaboration, UGEFA and DTB Uganda will jointly identify, prepare and finance promising green enterprises, combining investment-readiness support with dedicated loan products and capacity building for risk-aware green lending.

Mr. Godfrey Sebaana the DTB Uganda Managing Director says: “SMEs drive Uganda’s growth. Partnering with UGEFA allows us to scale practical climate solutions –from efficient energy use to cleaner production and climate-smart agriculture– while enabling businesses to create quality jobs and build long-term value.”

“Our partnership with UGEFA supports our efforts in joining the national goal of setting up green investments by factor of 10 in the next 15 years as stipulates the national Climate Finance strategy 2025,” he adds.

According to the Ministry of Finance and economic development Uganda has a climate financing gap of USD $ 28.1 billion.

Christine Meyer, UGEFA Programme Lead (adelphi), said: “We are building a strong network of committed banks to ensure green finance reaches the market, and we are delighted to welcome DTB Uganda to that network. Together with our partners, we are transforming the ecosystem so that green enterprises can access the funding they need — and we are doing this at scale.”

The partnership will prioritise sectors including sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, circular economy solutions, eco-tourism, waste management and clean transport. Interested SMEs can reach out to UGEFA and DTB Uganda to explore eligibility and next steps.

This collaboration marks a key milestone in UGEFA’s mission to connect financial institutions with high-potential green businesses, accelerating an inclusive and climate-smart future for Uganda.
