01 SEPTEMBER 2022 | KAMPALA
Uganda Green Enterprise Finance Accelerator (UGEFA), with its portfolio of almost 200 bankable green enterprises and its expertise in green and SME finance will join forces with the Uganda EU Business Forum to showcase promising green and finance-ready enterprises, to facilitate financial, strategic and technology partnerships and to explore tangible green finance instruments that leverage the potential of Uganda’s thriving innovative SME sector.
UGEFA will collaborate with the upcoming 2nd Uganda EU Business Forum, taking place on 26th and 27th October 2022 in Kampala. The Forum, under its headline “Mobilizing quality investments and boosting trade between Uganda and the European Union”, organised by the EU Delegation to Uganda and the Private Sector Foundation Uganda in partnership with the Government of Uganda, will explore a renewed commitment by both public and private sector stakeholders to building stronger Uganda – European Union business, investment, and trade ties as we emerge from unprecedented health and economic challenges.
Furthermore, UGEFA will host a workshop “Scaling green finance for Uganda’s transition to a green and inclusive economy”. Based on an interactive format, this session will showcase and co-create ideas to leverage the potential of sustainable finance to accelerate Uganda’s transition to a green and inclusive economy. It will shed light on opportunities and challenges for key stakeholders along the green finance value chain – from policy makers providing strategic and regulatory guidance, the bankers attracting and extending green capital, and to the green entrepreneurs, who need access to tailored financial products to invest in green projects and scale the deployment of green technologies, products and services.
UGEFA will provide a free pitching training for enterprises invited to pitch at the Forum (invitation-only event).
Jointly with representatives of UGEFA’s alumni community -frontrunners of Uganda’s SME sector, who have innovated green and scalable business models- the UGEFA team is looking forward to learn, discuss and share the business case of green entrepreneurship – why it is attractive to all types of financers, and how it spurs economic growth and sustainable development at the same time.
UGEFA’s partnership with the Uganda EU Business Forum 2022 will follow discussions and insights of UGEFA’s Green Finance Dialogue Forum 2021.This event brought together 120 participants; high-level speakers from institutions such as the EU Delegation to Uganda, the Bank of Uganda, the Ministry of Finance, KfW and others, who highlighted the enormous potential of green SMEs to accelerate Uganda’s transition to a green economy. Entrepreneurs showcased their innovative approaches to tackle sustainability challenges.
Watch our highlight video – we are looking forward to continue these discussions and to build momentum for scaling green entrepreneurship in Uganda.
