“It is not just about planting trees, it is more than that”.
Our UGEFA Senior Manager, Eddie Sembatya, was interviewed at The Link on NTV Tonight Uganda about the need for tailored business advisory and discounted loans for green SMEs to grow. Why is green finance important? What does UGEFA offer to SMEs in Uganda? Which enterprises are eligible? Sembatya answered all these questions during the interview.
“The world now is very concerned about issues regarding climate change, there is a whole movement”, says Sembatya, “and that is why green financing is now very important“. At this point, SMEs from diverse sectors – including tourism, clean energy, waste management, manufacturing and transport – are key actors for this shift in Uganda. As Sembatya says, “any organisation can become green as long as they are environmentally and socially cautious”.
Uganda’s Green Growth Development Strategy, developed by the National Planning Authority, focuses on the transition to a economy green, and UGEFA fits into that by supporting green SMEs with business advisory and access to financing with local banks.
